Round table „International Day of Forests“

In the Academy of Science and Arts of the Republic of Srpska, the round table “International Day of Forests”, organized bu the Board of Biotechnical Sciences of the Department of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Technical Sciences of ANURS was held on 21st March 2019.
Co-organizers of the round table were Public Company of Forestry „Forests of the Republic of Srpska“, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska, Ministry of Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society of the Republic of Srpska and the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Banja Luka.  
On that occasion, Academy of Science and Arts of the Republic of Srpska and Public Company of Forestry „Forests of the Republic of Srpska“ signed an Agreement on Cooperation. The President of ANURS, the academician Rajko Kuzmanovic opened the gathering. The gathering was addressed by Zoran Stojicic, acting director of Public Company of Forestry „Forests of the Republic of Srpska“, Gordana Rokvic PhD, Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska and Vojislav Dukic PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry in Banja Luka. 
At the gathering, it was talked about the significance of forests as an ideal ecologic factory, the most efficient cleaner of atmosphere from carbon monoxide and a source of oxygen, reliable system of defence from flash floods and land erosion, a source of drinking water, optimal habitat for living beings and irreplaceable natural environment for survival of civilization. The primary aim of holding of this Round table was actually raising of public awareness about forests as an important global resource and about forestry as a significant branch od economy in the Republic of Srpska. 
FAO dedicated the year of 2019 to the significance of education in forestry, which was the motto of this year`s gathering. Reports were read by Milan Medarevic PhD, and Ratko Ristic PhD, from the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade, Slobodan Milanovic PhD, from the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Processing of the Mendel University in Brno, Zoran Govedar PhD, from the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Banja Luka and Slavisa Opacic MA, from Public Company of Forestry „Forests of the Republic of Srpska“.
